Advanced techniques for creating published content using Arbortext Styler. You'll develop several very complex designs that build on skills developed in Arbortext 102 Styler Basic Training. We'll combine basic skills and advanced techniques. Students will be able tackle any Styler project following this class.

Instruction includes topics such as:

  • Stylesheet as Module: Modules serve as important building blocks for Styler Stylesheets. Learn how to employ them to make developing your 2nd, 3rd…99th stylesheet faster and easier, how to support multiple doctypes, and simplify maintenance tasks.
  • Advanced UFE Strategy and Usage: UFEs are elements you can manufacture, inserting them into the document, to capture, move, or use to generate content to simplify–or further differentiate–styling tasks. We'll use UFEs for both simple and complex tasks, so you can get a handle on how versatile and useful they can be to stylesheet designers.
  • Managing Side-by-Side Content: Formatting generated content regions on pages changed in Arbortext Styler 8.0. Stylesheets that used tables for formatting in headers, footers, and other generated content regions saw changes in their output. We'll rework a stylesheet that uses tables into a more robust, stable stylesheet that uses the side-by-side feature.
  • Controlling and Understanding Page Breaks: Tracking down a page break — and figuring out exactly what pageset is active and how it gets assigned — can stymie the best of us at times. In this session, we'll talk about how page sets function, where they get assigned, how they're triggered, and how blank pages fill in (and how to get rid of them). If there was ever a time when you struggled with page sets and page breaks in Styler,
  • And more! This class provides the forum for you to get your questions answered.
